America: Are We Prepared?

I constantly worry about the potential for another anthrax attack on America and our continued lack of preparedness. Such an attack, in my view, has the potential to be far more devastating that then 9/11 terrorist strikes in terms of casualties and economic consequences.

The attached monograph - Spores: The Threat of a Catastrophic Anthrax Attack on America brings together information from a wide range of sources to provide a current understanding of the risk of an anthrax attack against America. The report contains various scenarios that demonstrate our vulnerability to an attack and the potential catastrophic consequences of a strike with just a small amount of anthrax.

As a nation, we have the ability to provide protection against a biological attack such as anthrax. The government has taken steps to support promising technologies, but funding is insufficient and procurements are frustratingly slow. It’s my hope that this monograph will prompt a call to action by the public so we are adequately protected from a potential future attack.
